Oh yeah, home ownership

How could I forget? Kayla and I bought a house... a year ago. :/

We moved to Airdrie in February of 2007 and were renting a house from Kayla's folks that we intended to eventually by from them. It was a brand new house, and although we liked it, there were a couple of reasons we opted to by a different one. I suppose the main reason was price, but it didn't really fit our needs unless we developed the basement, and that would mean more money. So we ended up buying a nice house in a great neighbourhood. Structurally speaking, the house is good, but it needs some work. The carpet needs to go, the walls need to be painted, and there's no end to the list of things that need to be done to the basement. So far all we've really done is redecorate two of the bedrooms, but we're really hoping to replace the carpet with laminate soon. It's a horrible pink color and our pets have already defiled it a number of times.

Home ownership is great, but damn is it expensive. Our mortgage is twice as much as we used to pay for rent in Calgary, plus we have mortgage insurance, house insurance, and property tax. We manage to pay the bills just fine, but it makes it very hard to save up for things. You know, like a new floor! Oh, and we've never bought furniture. I'm almost 30 and I still have hand-me-down furniture. Le sigh...

Oh, and we bought a new car. That's not as exciting though.
